Those who need to impart knowledge and pass on the practical skills required for operating equipment and machinery in the workplace.
Students will understand different learning styles and how to impart clear instructions and coaching tools to facilitate the on the job learning. They will learn how to set out clear and measurable objectives, how to prepare and deliver knowledge based training in the workplace. They will also understand how to assess and review progress in relation to specific tasks and provide positive and constructive feedback whilst coaching and training.
Module One - Introduction:
- The role and skills of an on the job trainer
- The on the job instructional process
- Prepare, tell, show, do, review
- Task shadowing
Module Two - Learning Principles:
- What is a learning intervention?
- The importance of the training cycle
- Assessing existing skills
- Setting smart objectives to transfer skills and knowledge
- How people learn differently
- Matching people to the right approach
- Applying learning to practical tasks
- Motivating the self-learning process
Module Three - Structuring and Delivering Learning:
- Instructing in practical situations
- Providing guidance on undertaking new tasks
- Identifying unrecognised actions
- Recognising assumptive knowledge
- Imparting knowledge in manageable ‘bite sized’ chunks
- Understanding ‘passed on’ learning
- Using different methods to engage the trainee
- Using questioning to impart knowledge and transfer skills
- Dealing confidently with a range of people and situations
Module Four - Measuring Learning:
- Checking and evidencing understanding
- Observation checklists
- Measuring the success of practical tasks
- Using the learning ladder to check attainment
- Providing constructive feedback to trainees
This course can be delivered remotely or in a classroom environment, to suit your requirements.
Delegates must have the following equipment to attend this training remotely:
- PC or laptop with a microphone and speakers (webcam is preferred but not essential)
- Access to the internet and web browser application (e.g. Google Chrome)
- An email account for file sharing
