Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs)
Working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and employers, our SWAP training programmes bridge the gap, helping unemployed people find work, whilst providing a free recruitment service to employers operating within South and West Yorkshire.
A SWAP is made up of three components:
- The student - an unemployed person aged 19+ and claming state benefits.
- The training provider - provides the qualifications and skills for the advertised job vacancies along with required licences (SIA, DBS, CSCS ect).
- The employer - with vacancies, who visits the course for a Q&A session and offers a guaranteed job interview upon successful completion.
Our SWAPs operate across multiple sectors and support the regional economy by helping people into work, whilst addressing the skills shortages and recruitment needs of local businesses.
These sectors include:
- Warehousing
- Manufacturing
- Care
- Security
- Construction
- Hospitality
- Cleaning
- Teaching Assistant
What are SWAPs?
SWAPs are tailor-made, specifically for each sector and typically cover a durartion of one to six weeks. They take place within the community in hotels and community centres etc. We aim to make our training as accessible as possible, to break down barriers, upskill/ retrain people and help them find sustainable employment. The students will achieve a range of accredited qualifications that meet the specific needs of the employer participating in the SWAP. These could include Customer Service, Door Supervisor, First Aid for Mental Health, Substance Misuse or Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.
Over the last five years we have delivered hundreds of SWAPs and have partnered with many well-established employers such as Aldi, NHS, Mr Kipling (Premier Foods) and Constant Security.

Our SWAPs are fully funded by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) or West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). This means the learners attend our programmes free of charge, no fees are incurred by the recruiting company.
