The Level 2 in Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities Certificate will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of learning disabilities and their impact on daily life. You will explore topics such as safeguarding and personalisation in social care, gaining the knowledge to support individuals effectively and promote their well-being in a variety of settings.

Course Content

• Following this course, students will understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities and the principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care. This course will also cover an introduction to personalisation in social care, the principles of positive risk-taking for individuals with disabilities, an introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions and the principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare.

• How to contextualise support for individuals with learning disabilities

• Understanding inclusion

• Advocacy and empowerment

• Recognising signs of abuse

• How to respond to a situation of alleged abuse

• How to reduce the likelihood of abuse

• How to report unsafe practices

• How to adopt a personalised approach to care when supporting individuals with learning disabilities

• Support to manage risks

• Autistic spectrum conditions (ASC) and the different experiences of individuals living with ASC

• Systems of communication

• Roles of different professionals working with individuals with learning disabilities in healthcare services

• Healthcare plans and health checks and how they underpin long term health and wellbeing
