Introducing Caring for Young People Certificate Level 2

The Level 2 in Introducing Caring for Young People Certificate will provide you with an introduction to childcare, focusing on young children’s development. You will explore the value of play, learn how to plan a healthy diet, and understand the importance of safeguarding and welfare. This qualification will prepare you to support young children's growth and well-being in a variety of care settings.

Course Content:

Young children’s development:

  • The stages of development of young children from birth to three years

  • Positive environments that support the development of young children

The value of play to young children:

  • The necessity of play to young children’s development

  • Demonstrating different play activities suitable for young children from birth to five years old

Importance of play for early learning:

  • The vital importance of creativity and imagination in the development of a child

  • Organising a cooking activity for children

  • The importance of books and stories in child development

Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people:

  • Legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people (including e-safety)

  • What action to take when children or young people are injured or ill

  • Recognising emergency procedures

  • How to respond to suspicions that a child or young people has been abused, harmed or bullied

Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet:

  • How to make healthy and nutritional food choices for children

  • Food labels and what to look out for to ensure that children are given a balanced diet
