Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship
As an Early Years Practitioner apprentice, you’ll support children’s learning and development through activities and play. Under professional guidance, you’ll promote welfare, safeguard children, and support their well-being. Your role includes planning, child protection, development support, and ensuring safety and inclusion for all children. You will achieve the Cache Level 2 qualification. Your duties will include:
Collaborating with colleagues, parents, and professionals to meet children’s needs.
Promoting healthy life choices and supporting development through play.
Ensuring children’s safety and safeguarding.
Reflecting on and improving your practice.
Managing hygiene, safety, and cleanliness.
Supporting children’s development, including those with additional needs.
Contributing to planning and organizing learning experiences.
Communicating with children to enhance development.
Keeping accurate records for future planning.
Supporting the wellbeing of all children, including those with disabilities.
Your studies will cover:
Early Years roles and responsibilities.
Health and safety, safeguarding, and promoting equality in Early Years.
Supporting children’s development, care routines, and physical activity.
Supporting special educational needs and promoting positive behaviour.
Partnering with others and preparing children for school.

How much does the course cost?
There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer.

Course Content
Level 1 Childcare qualification
GCSE English and Maths grade 4/C or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths
Undertake the Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result
You will need to find an employer willing to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our apprenticeship vacancies for the latest opportunities. Please be aware, individual employers will set their own entry requirements and selection criteria for their apprenticeship job role.
You will be assessed by your trainer using an e-portfolio of evidence, observations in the workplace and longitudinal study.
You will go through an End Point Assessment including:
Assessment method 1: Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio
Assessment method 2: Knowledge Test
You can progress onto Higher Level study or secure employment as a: Early Year Practitioner – Nursery Assistant, Nursery Practitioner, Nursery Nurse, Assistant Childminder, Nanny and Early Years Worker.
These roles can be found in a range of private and public settings including; full day care, children’s centres, pre-schools, reception classes, playgroups, nursery schools, home based provision, hospitals, social care settings, out of school environments and local authority provision.

Having good English and Maths qualifications are important for most careers and we want to give you the help you need to succeed.
If you are aged 16 - 19 and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, you will automatically be included in your study programme. If you want to work towards achieving a higher grade in English and Maths, we can help you do that too and we offer Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) which can be added to your study programme.
If you're aged 19 or above and don't hold a grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths, our parent company, Barnsley College can help. Barnsley College offer FREE English and Maths qualifications that can be studied on a part-time basis, subject to eligibility.
