Cleaning and Hygeine Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship

The Level 2 Cleaning Hygiene Operative Apprenticeship will prepare you to maintain safe and hygienic environments using specialised cleaning techniques. You will work independently and as part of a team, reporting to a supervisor while ensuring high standards of cleanliness. This apprenticeship will equip you with the skills to support infection control, prevent the spread of bacteria and provide essential cleaning services across various workplaces.

Course Content

  • Carry out cleaning tasks using appropriate cleaning agents

  • Use cleaning or disinfection procedures correctlyComply with health and safety, environmental requirements and infection prevention and control policy and procedures

  • Safely use cleaning equipment, materials, personal protective equipment (PPE), and products in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, legal and organisational requirementsSelect and apply techniques for safe removal of soil and contaminating material

  • Monitor the environment for signs of pest infestation

  • Maintain storage areas using housekeeping best practice

  • Dispose of cleaning products and materials in line with legal requirements

  • Accurately record and report work, using industry-standard methods

  • Follow site-specific security protocols and data protection requirements

  • Disassemble and reassemble a range of service user equipment used in healthcare services

  • Provide routine and specialist hygienic cleaning and decontamination of the healthcare environment in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness and local standards, policies, guidelines, and operating procedures

Course Fees and Funding

How much does the course cost?

There is no cost to being an apprentice. All costs associated with your apprenticeship, including the cost of training and your salary, will be paid by your employer. Funding value £5,000.

Course Content

  • You must achieve Level 2 English and Maths prior to completing the End-point Assessment (EPA). If you don't already hold Level 2 English and Maths, this content will be blended into the study programme (if it is required).

  • You must be at least 16 years of age.

  • You will need to find an employer willing to employ you as an apprentice. Please see our apprenticeship vacancies for the latest opportunities. Please be aware, individual employers will set their own entry requirements and selection criteria for their apprenticeship job role.

Workplace assessments including observations, discussions and assignments. The End-point Assessment (EPA) will include a knowledge test and observation.

Ability to learn on online with a laptop would be an advantage.
