ITS Training and Apprenticeships

Training and education provider, ITS Group, has joined an elite few in Yorkshire and Humber after being awarded a Skills for Care endorsement by the training standards organisation.

“I welcome an approach which is a lot more hands on for the students."

Skills for Care has given its seal of approval to just 63 providers in the UK, despite current estimates putting the total number of providers at around 30,000.

ITS is one of only 7 providers to gain this accolade in the North of England and one of only 5 in Yorkshire and Humber.

As a result of the endorsement, adult care employers will be able to claim a maximum of £900 back through ITS for each member of staff currently in receipt of training.

In addition to the endorsement, ITS has also developed a care facility which offers a realistic simulation of a domiciliary care environment, including industry standard equipment.

This will enable care students to experience the practical application of care theory from the perspective of the client, something Anne Wordsworth, Registered Manager at Hunningley Grange, Lindhurst Lodge and Rosehill House, feels is important: “We have worked with ITS for about 6 years. ITS has an excellent understanding of the needs of the business.

“I welcome an approach which is a lot more hands on for the students.

“It is a lot more useful for us as a business, as it gives our staff chance to experience what it is like for an older person.

“Often it can be confusing for clients and the equipment used can be frightening if they are not familiar with it.

“Everyone should experience things from the client’s perspective so they can understand the importance of talking people through every stage of the process.”

Although it is not a requirement to provide this kind of simulated environment, it is something the Barnsley-based education and training charity feels is important to help students develop good practice and further their theoretical skills.
