If you are looking to develop your business admin skills as well as make a real difference in Barnsley, BMBC have an opportunity for an apprenticeship with our Stronger Communities Service. Working alongside our Community Events and Grants Officer you will be able to build up a good range of skills and experience in business admin as well as learn more about how Barnsley Council works with our communities to help make them great places to live and feel proud of.

Details of Training and Development Activities:

  • Reception skills, including answering the intercom, meeting and greeting, incoming calls and front line customer care.
  • Room Bookings.
  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Photocopying/duplicating.
  • Storage and retrieval of documents.
  • Dealing with general enquiries, signposting and receiving advice.
  • Receiving, prioritising and communicating messages.
  • Receiving/sending and forwarding e-mails.
  • Maintenance of stationery and supplies.
  • Display of materials.
  • Health and Safety requirements.
  • Use of computer – data input/inputting orders/producing letters, mail outs/sending emails, etc
  • Collating various documents, laminating, binding and scanning.
  • Various miscellaneous experiences relating to Business Support.


Training to be provided:

As part of this apprenticeship you will gain your intermediate diploma level 2 in Business Administration which will be delivered entirely at the place of work, both on and off the job by Independent Training Services. The apprenticeship standards also include functional skills qualifications in Maths and English when required.

Number of Vacancies: 1

Weekly Hours: 37 hours per week. A flexi-time scheme is in operation.  Potential for occasional early evening and weekend appointments to be covered by the 37 hours.

Training Allowance: 136.90 per week (In line with the NMW for apprentices)
