An exciting opportunity has become available within a commercial kitchen at a local Golf Club in Selby for an ambitious and driven catering apprentice to join this experienced team.


Vacancy description

The apprentice will assist with all elements of catering from food preparation through to presentation and will gain experience of creating a huge range of basic to extravagant dishes.

General Duties and Qualification Units are to Include:

  • Preparing (washing, chopping and storing) ingredients such as meats, vegetables and salads
  • Cooking and presenting dishes to exceptional standards
  • Providing all elements of catering for a range of events such as weddings, golf events, funerals and Sunday lunches
  • Assisting with preparing hot and cold sandwiches
  • Assisting with preparing hot and cold desserts such as basic cakes, sponges and scones
  • Monitoring food product stock levels
  • Assisting the catering team to ensure all meals are served promptly and to a high standard
  • Maintaining a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
  • Maintaining food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food

Working Hours

Working 5 days a week (39 hours per week with no split shifts).

Although there will be some evenings for functions etc a typical shift will be 9am – 5pm.

Training Wage - £273.00 a week 


Training to be provided:

Full training will be provided.

As part of this apprenticeship you will gain your Intermediate Diploma Level 2 in Commis Chef which will be delivered entirely at the place of work, both on and off the job by Independent Training Services. The apprenticeship standards also include functional skills qualifications in Maths and English when required.


Things to consider

The role involves communicating between customers and fellow colleagues so applicants need to be comfortable communicating with a broad range of people. The role can be very busy and the apprentice will often have to work under pressure. The role will involve the successful candidate working within a kitchen for the majority of time, which can be hot and uncomfortable all year round. The role involves working weekends and some evenings so candidates must be prepared to work these shifts.
