Burton Street Foundation are excited to offer a number of Support Worker Apprenticeship opportunities. The role will involve working in sessions at our centre and out in the community with adults to provide creative, meaningful, and social activities leading to opportunities to build confidence, encourage self-expression and promote communication.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide a consistent and professional level of support in line with the Burton Street Foundation’s ethos
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to enhance service delivery and customer experience
  • Contribute towards the planning and delivery of creative activities
  • To ensure the safety of our clients
  • To provide support for the emotional wellbeing of our clients
  • To work towards building effective relationships with our clients
  • To understand client’s needs and encourage participation in appropriate activities
  • To enable self-confidence, self-expression, and communication through the use of creative activities
  • To provide support to clients who have challenging needs
  • To provide support to clients with physical and or health needs

Desired qualifications

  • Ideally educated to grade C/4 or above GCSE standard.

    A qualification/experience in any of the following areas – art, music, dance, drama, and sport (or equivalent) would also be advantageous.

Programme details

Level 2 Adult Care Worker apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)

The apprenticeship standard consists of core knowledge, skills & behaviours. This is typically a 12-15-month apprenticeship which is delivered in partnership with the employer in the workplace.

Examples of the knowledge, skills & behaviours covered can be seen below:

Knowledge & Skills:

  • The job they have to do, their main tasks and responsibilities
  • The importance of having the right values and behaviours
  • The importance of communication
  • How to support individuals to remain safe from harm (Safeguarding)
  •  How to promote health and wellbeing for the individuals they support and work colleagues

Behaviours:

  • Care – is caring consistently and enough about individuals to make a positive difference to their lives
  • Compassion – is delivering care and support with kindness, consideration, dignity, and respect
  • Courage – is doing the right thing for people and speaking up if the individual they support is at risk
  • Communication – good communication is central to successful caring relationships and effective team working

Apprenticeship standards require apprentices to participate in a minimum of 20% off the job training during paid working hours, this will include time spent studying with the training provider and workplace training.

Apprenticeship standards are assessed through an end point assessment (EPA), the EPA commences once the apprentice, employer and tutor all agree that the apprentice is ready.

The apprenticeship outcome will be graded as a pass, merit, or distinction.

Number of vacancies: 4

Salary: £129.00 per week

Weekly Hours:

  • 30 hours per week, 09:00 - 15:00 or 09:30 - 15:30, depending on department. Days to be confirmed.

Progression

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship the offer of a permanent position is likely to be made at the end of the apprenticeship.
