This is an opportunity for a caring natured individual to work in the health and social care sector and who has an interest in the care of individuals with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, brain injury and mental health. This is working within the community, based in the Wakefield Area.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support individuals with physical disabilities, learning disabilities & difficulties, brain injury and mental health
  • To work with individuals in supported living housing/adult opportunities/support and enablement in the community
  • To demonstrate care, compassion, adaptability, respect and empowerment in the approach to caring for vulnerable people
  • To provide personal care and to teach life skills, as well as supporting individuals to take part in a wide range of activities, including arts and crafts, drama, gardening, shopping trips and social occasions
  • To understand, adopt and to live the organisations values
  • To take ownership and responsibility for your contribution agreement and progress review
  • To be aware and to follow policies and procedures of company
  • To treat service users with dignity and respect that they have right to expect from you
  • To take part in a programme of continuous training and development

Training to be provided:

As part of the apprenticeship the successful applicant will gain their intermediate NVQ Level 2 in Adult Care Standards, delivered entirely at the place of work, both on and off the job by Independent Training Services. The apprenticeship standard also includes functional skills Maths and English when needed.

Things to consider:

Care roles by nature can involve recurrent instances of bereavement for residents and their families. Care roles involve assisting residents with all elements of care which includes helping them with toileting needs, bathing and dressing. Care roles involve situations requiring empathy, sensitivity and tact. Care roles also can involve long periods of time standing, demanding shifts and working under pressure when needed.
