According to the World Health Organisation, three million people in the UK have diabetes, a disease affecting blood-sugar levels. There are also thought to be around 850,000 people with undiagnosed diabetes. Although there is no cure for diabetes, careful care and management of the condition can help maintain blood sugar levels and control symptoms. Left untreated, diabetes can lead to a number of health problems, including heart disease, stroke, nerve damage, kidney disease and eye and foot problems. This comprehensive learning programme explores the different types of diabetes and how they can occur, and outlines how lifestyle changes can delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes. It also provides practical guidance about diabetes diagnosis, initial and ongoing care and controlling blood-sugar levels.
