PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner

Course overview

During this five day course, attendees will prepare for, and complete, the PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner exams.

This course covers PRINCE2 project management methods including the four key integrated components:

  • Principles
  • Themes
  • Processes
  • Project environment

Course attendees will participate in quizzes and activities throughout the five days and will be required to complete homework in preparation for the Foundation and Practitioner exams. 

Certificates for both exams will be awarded on successful completion.

Open participant course: £1,000 per person, plus £595 exam fees - maximum 10 people

Closed company course: £5,000 per course, plus £595 exam fees - maximum 10 people

Suitable for

This course is suitable for Project Managers, Senior Managers and project team members who need to adopt and implement PRINCE2 project management methodologies.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to use PRINCE2 project management methodologies. They will help them to deliver projects on time, within budget and to defined quality requirements. They will discover tools, procedures and processes that will help the project team complete projects successfully.

DAY 1

Introduction:

  • Organisational model
  • What is a project?
  • What is project management?
  • Portfolios, programmes, projects vs business as usual
  • Project performance and key performance indicators
  • What is PRINCE2?
  • PRINCE2 elements and benefits

Principles of PRINCE2:

  • The seven PRINCE2 principles for managing projects:
    • Business case
    • Organisation
    • Quality
    • Plans
    • Risk
    • Change
    • Progress

The Project Process:

  • Appointing roles and responsibilities
  • Defining the project
    • What are the project objectives?
    • Who is involved in the project?
    • Why is the project required?
    • How will the project be managed?
  • Assemble the project brief and initiation stage plan
  • Defining the project process summary - objectives, purpose and tailoring

Starting the Project Process:

  • Initiating projects
  • Controlling project stages
  • Managing product delivery and stage boundaries
  • Directing the project process summary

 DAY 2

Planning and Tailoring Requirements and Themes:

  • Planning tailoring requirements
  • Creating project plan themes
  • Setting up project controls
  • Preparing a quality management approach
  • Preparing a change control approach

DAY 3

Directing and Authorising a Project Process:

  • How to prepare a risk management approach
  • Working with a communication management approach
  • Refining the business case and benefits management approach
  • Assembling the project initiation documentation
  • Managing the stage boundary process - create the next stage plan
  • Preparing documentation for the project board:
    • Project initiation documentation
    • Management approach
    • Next stage plan
  • Project board authorisations and approvals.

Delivery Process:

  • How to control a stage process
  • Managing the product delivery process
  • Managing the stage boundary process

Project Closure:

  • How to close a project
  • Project closure authorisation and approval
  • End project report

DAY 4

Exams and Exam Preparation:

  • PRINCE2 Foundation exam
  • Preparing for PRINCE2 Practitioner exam

DAY 5

Preparing for PRINCE2 Practitioner and Administration Exam:

  • Exam preparation
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner and Administration exam

Course requirements

This course can be delivered remotely or in a classroom environment, to suit your requirements.

To attend remotely, delegates will require the following equipment:

  • PC or laptop with a microphone and speakers (webcam is preferred but not essential)
  • Access to the internet and web browser application (e.g. Google Chrome)
  • An email account for file sharing
  • A second screen is ideal but not essential
